Emergency Survival Plan Supplies (3-Day, B.O.B., Car)

by admin on Oct.03, 2009, under Uncategorized

Ok, so the Canadian Government has issued a list of recommended supplies to have in case of emergency (visit http://getprepared.ca/knw/kt/kt-eng.aspx)  in the wake of an ever-increasing list of natural and man-made disasters and emergencies, such as Extreme Weather (Blackouts, Flooding, Ice Storms), Contagious Illnesses (SARS, H1N1), Propane Explosions, Anthrax, etc.

It is recommended that you have enough supplies and gear for your entire family for a minimum of 3 days, sheltered in your home.

Also good to have is a BOB (Bug-Out Bag) which is an easily transported bag containing all of your emergency needs in case of evacuation, for example in case of flood or explosions (those in the GTA can relate).

Great items to have in your emergency stash are:

  • Water.  Minimum of 2 litres/day/person. Include some small bottles which are easy to carry. Hydration bladders (aka camelbacks) and canteens for carrying clean drinking water with you.
  • Rations or MREs (Meal Ready to Eat) which come in many flavours. Each one contains enough calories for 2 days for the average adult. Can be eaten cold, don’t need to be rehydrated, and come with all kinds of extra goodies like gum and hot chocolate or juice mix! And they don’t expire for years.
  • Eating utensils. A KFS (knife, fork, spoon) set is compact and durable.
  • Blankets and Sleeping Bags for each family member. In an emergency, the power may be shut off. Wool or Ranger-style blankets are multi-purpose and warm.
  • Trioxane fuel pellets. Can be stored easily, burn with enough heat to boil water for tea/coffee, and heat an MRE.
  • Bags. A duffel bag is great for storing all of your emergency gear, and is easy to grab and carry in case you need to “Bug Out” aka evacuate. Backpacks are also useful.
  • Books.  Learn survival techniques, improve your outdoors knowledge, or just enjoy the pictures.  Learn how to keep intruders out of your home with simple household items.
  • Gas cans.  Keep a back-up in case you have to leave and the stations are all shut down.
  • Flashlights (and don’t forget a stash of batteries).
  • Basic tools such as Shovels or Knives. Hunting or pocket knives are useful for many things from cutting rope to catching dinner.
  • Rope. Paracord is thin and light, so it’s easy to pack and carry, but it’s also incredibly strong.
  • Medicines, emergency contacts list, emergency plan.
  • Change of clothes for each member of the family.
  • Portable radio, either battery-powered or wind-up.
  • First-aid kit.
  • Duct tape. It’s so useful, even the Government recommends it!
  • Emergency whistle.
  • Special needs items – prescription medications, infant formula or equipment for people with disabilities
  • Extra keys – for your car and house

Also, don’t forget about your car! Especially in winter, you should carry emergency and survival items in your car such as:

  • Food – that won’t spoil, such as energy bars
  • Water – in plastic bottles so they won’t break if frozen (change every six months)
  • Blanket
  • Extra clothing and shoes
  • First aid kit – with seatbelt cutter
  • Small shovel, scraper and snowbrush
  • Candle in a deep can and matches
  • Wind–up flashlight
  • Whistle – in case you need to attract attention
  • Roadmaps
  • Copy of your emergency plan and personal documents
  • Sand, salt or cat litter (non clumping) (for traction in slippery conditions)
  • Antifreeze/windshield washer fluid
  • Tow rope
  • Jumper cables
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Warning light or road flares

Check out our store, we have lots of these items and more to help you prepare to protect yourself and your family.

Force Recon presents Borderwars III: Civil Authority

by admin on Feb.27, 2009, under Uncategorized

Status Update: This event was cancelled.

Event Type: Military Simulation (CQB – Field)

Background

Flashpoint: Town of Picton – Ontario, Canada
Global World Wide News Service – 12/08

After suffering heavy casualties in the fighting near Mosport, the Canadian and American forces have withdrawn to defensive positions in order to replenish and rest their weary troops. Even though fighting has subsided, the Border War continues with only small skirmishes and probing actions north of the Hwy. 401 phase line.

Plaguing both armies is the need to sustain operations in the Iraq war and the Afghanistan ISAAF campaign drawing valuable resources from the North American dispute. In a strange twist of fate, the Americans have recently elected a new President whose view differs greatly than President Bush and has resulted in a lack of drive and incentive for U.S. forces to push any further into Canada during the transitional phase of the government.

In Canada, Newly elected Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his minority government have been forced to suspend government activities as the Coalition government fights amongst the Conservatives and amongst themselves causing many Canadians to fear the future. Secretly, many on both sides of the border hope to resolve the dispute through negotiations instead of conflict as they struggle to cope with severed business and family contacts.

American occupied territory within Ontario has severed the provincial government structure rendering it virtually invisible and ineffective leaving many communities to struggle by themselves. The global economy has clobbered both sides of the Border war campaign, crippling the population with increased job losses, disparity, and uncertainty despite money being injected into the war effort.

In the town of Picton, a local lawman has taken advantage of the confusion and lack of military or government presence thus forming a protective ring around the town. This ruthless Sheriff, along with his mercenary deputies, behaves as a modern day warlord choking the town’s resources and controlling all the food and energy resources. The Mayor and Council have virtually been removed from office leaving a puppet government acting on direct orders of the Sheriff.

Although sustaining life in the town, the local townspeople are fearful as the Sheriff doles out his cruel punishment to anyone who opposes him or tries to leave. Secretly, they are hoping that either army will rescue them but they have little hope……….

This has been a Global World Wide News Service special report. Stay tuned!

What is Airsoft?

by admin on Feb.20, 2009, under Uncategorized

Player with replica airsoft gun

Player with replica airsoft gun

Airsoft  is a combat sport in which players eliminate opponents by hitting each other with non-metallic BBs from a compressed-air gun which are often full 1:1 scale replica firearms or ¾ scale driven by an electrical powered gearbox (AEG: Automatic Electric Gun)  by gas, or by manual spring-load.

It is a sport where the physical size or athletic ability of one’s opponent is not the only deciding factor for success in game-play.  It involves both the physical exertion of moving over various terrains and the mental activity of planning, developing and executing strategies in a team based environment.

Players typically participate in the simulation of military or law enforcement combat (MilSim)”, short for Military Simulation. In MilSim game-play, several goals or missions may be assigned to each team, along with a basic load-out of supplies (which can include ammunition, rations, ,explosives such as airsoft versions of Claymore mines, airsoft hand grenades, grenade launchers and rifle grenades.  While not typical, military simulation games can often last several days, where participants camp overnight during game play.

Zeonprime presents Zombie 3 Airsoft Game

Game-play is not limited to MilSim, many players prefer straight team-based elimination or capture the flag.  However, one’s imagination is the only limit for the theme of a game.

Does it Hurt?

Yes and No.  Getting hit is part of the game. Fortunately, it isn’t as bad as one thinks or that airsofters would have you believe. From personal experience, it isn’t as bad as being hit by a paintball, I could barely feel it when hit on unexposed areas of my body even with guns that had higher than average FPS.   Despite this, I would not want to play without protective eyewear as I am sure that this could lead to a potential disaster.

Honor system and Teams

Airsoft game-play employs an honor system whereby the players rely on each others’ honesty to admit to being hit, because unlike paintballs, airsoft bbs do not leave visible marks on clothing.  As the flow of proper game-play relies heavily on the honor system, games are often played within established Airsoft Teams (Clans), where members know and trust one another to own up to being hit.  However, this is not the only function an airsoft team.  It is often to unite players with a similar level of skills, values, or likes about the sport.  To find a team that you think with mesh with your interests or skills, visit the forums at Http://www.airsoftcanada.com

Legalities in Canada

MilSim Game in Action

MilSim Game in Action

While airsoft technically is legal in Canada, it is not legal to import Airsoft guns across the border as the Canada Border Service Agency has a directive that states airsoft guns are indeed replicas and are therefore prohibited to be imported.

Replica weapons are outlawed in Canada, and since airsoft gun body are often a full 1:1 exact copy of its real counterpart, in theory it is a replica. However, replica weapons are non-firing while airsoft guns fires bb projectiles, therefore making it not really a replica.

There has long since been an initiative established in order to try to change this policy on classing airsoft guns as replicas, however, efforts thus far have not made any changes as of yet.  Many are hopeful that this policy will change for the better of the sport, however, there have been many recent events in Canada where people have attempting robbing stores or threatening others using airsoft guns.  These types of events do an immense disservice to the efforts of changing this policy as it reinforces the belief anything looking like the real thing will only have a negative impact.

Recently, manufacturers have started to make airsoft guns with clear receivers (Center of the body).  As these guns are clearly not an exact replica of a real gun, importation into Canada is allowed.  Many people find this a happy medium versus the use of a clearsoft gun.
